Can you give some examples about the similarities and differences between German Culture and American Culture?

    The similarity is that both cultures give individualism a crucial importance. In both cultures, people tend to do what they want to do.

    The difference is that germans value order, especially in public. Americans like to enjoy their freedom and hate being locked up.

    Similarities:​ The main content of American culture is the emphasize on individuals' value, the pursue of democracy and freedom, the promotion of deploitation and competition and the need of realistic and practicality. The Germans also like freedom and pursue freedom. For them, freedom refers to individual freedom, including independence and of course, political freedom of discussion.
    Difference: German dress style is more gentlemanly, American dress style is more casual, mainly comfortable. Germany pays more attention to the form of etiquette. When meeting with guests in social occasions, handshake is usually performed. But when meeting with an outsider, Americans tend to nod their heads and smile, or just say "Hi" to each other.

    Differences:

    1. Uncertainty avoidance: Germans feel threatened by ambiguous situations and insist on written rules and detailed codes of conduct. While Americans don’t obey so many rules.
    2. High religiosity: The US is one of the most religious countries in the Christian world. Values in public schools in the U.S. are connected with religion. But Germans will obey the rules more often.
    3. Masculinity: Germans place greater importance on earnings, recognition, advancement and challenge.
    4. Power distance and long-term orientation: Germany is a decentralized society, with relatively flatter organization structures and a comparatively smaller proportion of supervisors. While in American, the political power is vertical ---- separation of powers.

    Similarities:

    1. Individualism. The concept of individualism in the US plays a significant role in the lives of many Americans. Independence and self-reliance are highly valued. One’s position in US society is determined by one’s own achievements as opposed to status or age. Germans place high priority on looking after themselves and their immediate family.
    2. Egalitarianism: Both believe in having equal rights, equal social obligations, and equal opportunities based on the concept of individual merit.
    3. Low context: The primary purpose of communication is to exchange information, facts and opinions. In the US, conflict is dealt with directly and opened, and for its reason. They will say “no” directly or criticize others in public. In Germany as well.

    Similarities:

    1、Both the United States and Germany attach great importance to individualism. Everyone has his own personal space.

    Differences:

    1、The Americans hamburgers, then the Germans eat nothing,but sauerkraut and sausage.

    2、All of them are made of AA system, so are men and women. There is no reason for anyone to invite anyone.

    3、Americans do things freely. They don't like to prepare everything in advance. If something goes wrong, they don't attribute the problem to themselves. They will blame the food itself. Germans do things strictly and conscientiously. They will prepare everything silently in advance and do things carefully.

    Germany and the United States are both developed countries that believe in liberalism and equality for all. There are also similarities in economy and politics.

    However, the Germans are more rigorous and pay attention to order, especially in German companies. The United States is more open and free. The two countries also differ in their religious beliefs. Of course, the most important difference is the language difference.
