1.Pity her husband and herself,  felt unfair on her husband, who clearly won the game but can not go to the award, pity own situation at that time, there was no way to obtain legal rights

2.Feel cold about policy, racism was an invisible wall between blacks and whites, preventing them from free communication and understanding, they wanted to contact each other, but did not know how to contact.

Feel aggrieved for her husband. Apartheid greatly undermined the rights and interests of blacks. Her husband could not come on stage to accept the award because of apartheid.

Feel touched for the whites’sympathy. Not all white people are prejudiced and discriminated against black people. She felt the kindness of some white people through what happened to her husband.

Feel helpless for the social environment. Even if the blacks was treated unfairly, there was nothing she could do.

I think the wife wept for the socity they lived in. In the era of apartheid in South Africa, white people could not relate to the experiences of black people. Even white people are moved by the African Mother and Child . The sculpture aroused the conscience and compassion of the white man, but it did not change anything in society. There seems to be an invisible barrier between black and white. They are eager to understand each other, but are influenced by their respective environments, which unconsciously reinforce their prejudices. It goes on from generation to generation. It's a dead cycle.

I think she was moved by Van Rensburg's kindness. Van Rensburg broke down racial boundaries between whites and blacks, accepting them and treating them with respect that his wife found warm and touching. They live in a society that exposes them to endless prejudice and injustice. All kinds of institutions shackled them and made them miserable, and Van Rensburg gave them the respect they deserved, showing them that there were more than prejudices in this society, there were still people who were free from the shackles of traditional thought.

Being a black man is discriminated against in many ways. On the one hand, she felt sorry for her husband, who had won the prize but couldn't go to collect it. On the other hand, the segregation was like a wall that kept white people and black people from understanding each other, yet van Rensburg did not discriminate against her husband, broke the racial line and talked to him normally.

First of all, I think she is crying about the injustice her husband has received. Simelane's work won an award, but he couldn't go to the ceremony or even see his own work because he was black.Secondly, she was also touched by this group of kind white people. Finally, she cried about this unfair apartheid system, some whites and blacks wanted to touch each other, but there was always an untouchable barrier between them.

Both. 1. I feel wronged and unjust for my husband, whose sculpture works are very good, but he can't accept the award on stage because of his race. 2. Moved by the actions of these white people, after listening to this experience of her husband, these white people did not discriminate against them, but also treated them very well. 3. Helplessness and complaint to the social reality. As a black person, many rights and interests are damaged, but they cannot change the current situation.

    1. After years of unfair treatment because of his black identity, the husband was not discriminated against this time, and his works were appreciated by white people.

    2. The heartache of racial discrimination and the helplessness of this big environment.

I think she wept not only because she was moved by the immaculate and unpolitical friendship between her husband and the whites he met, but also because of the insurmountable divide that crossed the black and white people. She not only felt that this kind of sympathy and acquaintance was beautiful, but also regretted that this feeling was hindered by social factors.

First, she was crying for Van Rensburg. She did not expect that in such a racist country, there would still be white people willing to communicate with black people. She was moved by white people who exuded kindness. The second is to cry for the hardship of living in such a racist country. The third is to cry for her husband. Finally someone who could understand her husband.

I think there are three reasons why Simelane's wife wept. First, she felt sorry for her husband. He won the prize but couldn't attend the award ceremony because he was a black man. Second, she wept for Van Rensburg. Under the apartheid system, she didn't think that there were any white people willing to know about them except him. Third, she wept for the country. The apartheid system of the country made black people discriminated against by the society

I think she was relieved that her husband had just been involved in a carving contest, and she was always afraid that he would become a victim of racial strife, and at this moment her husband's story showed her that there were still people who treated them kindly. At the same time, she was reminded of the cruel treatment of black people in this society, and she felt sad for herself and her husband, and felt guilty and worried about her children

The first point I think is that she was moved by the kindness of these white people, and the white people her husband met were not the kind of white people who were proud and rude, but the kind of white people who were kind to black people despite segregation.

The second point I think is that she was saddened by the existence of racial discrimination. The existence of racial discrimination makes black people treated unequally, their status is very inferior, and their actions are also subject to various restrictions.

No matter Black or White, they both their minds be imprisoned by the racial policies. There was a huge wide gap between them.white people could not see what black people see. They were “blind” in some ways.Though they wanted to treated Black friendly, showing their open-mind,they still were not in a same boat. Many wrong reasons filled with white people’s minds that made them could not touch black people’s souls. This was the saddest thing that made by the country’s wrong policies. This also the reason she wept.

The first is to pity herself and her husband, because her husband is black and has no legal identity to receive the award, so she can only pretend to be sick, and her husband's departure may cause political conflicts. At the same time, I feel the same way, I live under the darkness of apartheid. The second is the disappointment with the country, the despair of the bleak life, and the sadness of discrimination and irrational policies, which made her feel that apartheid was not only about separating people from different people of skin color, but also about creating a huge gap in ideas

I think the wife pitied for herself and her husband, because they were black, which he won the game but he could not get the award. She pitied for the situation they lived with many unfair laws obeyed.

I think the wife was touched by Van Rensburg's behavior. He didn't care her husband was black, and still treated him as a normal person without discrimination. Van Rensburg was not like other white man, he could drink with her husband and send her husband to home without any complaint.

I think the wife was hopeless for the country. The people who like Van Rensburg were a small part, they were still prejudice against the black.

I think the wife wept for the country.  In the country,  strategists invented apartheid as a means to strengthen their control over the social system. Race laws touched every aspect of social life that people live in the same country with different categories can not understand them with each other. And there were some laws limiting the black's life. So I think the wife wept for the country leading to her husband could not touchand  understand the white.

From my point of view, his wife wept for the country. Because the country have been affected by the apartheid for many years, the white person hurt and offended van Rensburg accidently at some times. At first, they didn't walk in line, which indicates the influence of the apartheid. Though the white person invited van Rensburg to drink in a White Only flat, he left van Rensburg to drink in the passage in an embarrassing situation. Lastly, the white person didn't really understand van Rensburg who was limited by the liquor laws and night policy strictly. His wife wept for the different values and beliefs between the white person and van Rensburg, which led to they couldn't touch each other deeply.

I think there are two main reasons why his wife is crying. First of all, she was frustrated about the encounter between her husband and the white man, two souls who wanted to be close to each other because of the racial and institutional barriers could not understand deeply. Secondly, she thought about the national policies in the general environment, which could not be changed under the historical background of apartheid, so she felt helpless and sad.

His wife wept due to racial discrimination. Because they were black and could not receive equal social treatment with white people. She also wept for van Rensburg because he was white but very curious about her husband. He wanted to know Simelane, but couldn't because years of darkness had blinded his eyes. He couldn't ignore social discrimination and learn about Simelane, even though he loved the “African mother and son” very much. She also wept for this country, which has publicly enacted laws of racial segregation, resulting in an invisible wall between black and white people. Even if people want to understand each other, they don't know how to do it.

First, I think she wept for her husband. Because her husband wasn't ostracized and hurt by white people. She also wept for Van Rensburg, because he was a white man but he treated Simelane very friendly. Secondly, she wept for this country, which enacted segregation laws and they could not have equal status with white people. Otherwise, her husband must have become very good friends with Van Rensburg, who admired her husband's sculpture.

I think his wife's crying was moving. After a long period of discrimination and unfair treatment, there are still very few people who can interact with black people and appreciate their works. His wife may also be relieved that she sees hope, and sees the hope of respecting black people.

Because she was sad to realize that apartheid had become an intractable problem. This is not a problem that can be solved by a small number of white people interacting with black people in a friendly way, let alone with caution. The wife, like the mother in the sculpture, is both worried about the future and helpless for the present.

    (1) The wife, like the other characters in the story, wants to fit into society normally, but she can also feel this "sad thick barrier", and this feeling of powerlessness makes her cry.

    (2) As a person who has been hated and disparaged as the bottom of society for a long time, I was surprised to hear that my husband was favored this time, but I felt a huge gap because of the indescribable racial discrimination reflected in every move of white people.

    (3) The wife also has a deep desire for the early elimination of racial discrimination in society
