1.Even though both Alexander and Diogenes were philosophers, both pursued philosophy. But Alexander and I have different goals. Alexander sought power, attempted to conquer the state, and sought it in philosophy. But Diogenes' goal in life was to make people truly understand the meaning of life, to live a free and simple life, and to spread cynicism. They seek difference.

2.Alexander is free because he has supreme power. Everyone respected and flattered him.

Diogenes is free because he is not bound by social conventions and lives his own natural, free life.

    1. Alexander was able to understand the philosophical ideas practiced by Diogenes, and similarly, he had his own mission. Therefore, he and Diogenes were of the same kind, but due to their different responsibilities, their identities were different.

2.Alexander and Diogenes both had their own pursuits and missions. Unlike ordinary people, they did not suffer for material wealth and were able to fulfill their missions. Therefore, only they were free.

1.What Alexander means by this sentence is that he, as a king, has wealth and power, but he also understands the meaning of cynicism and has the responsibility to save the people of the world, while Diogenes, as a philosopher, he does not pursue material and wealth, he also has the responsibility to save the people with his own morality, and there is no difference between them in essence.

2.Alexander thought that he was free because he had absolute power and Diogenes was free because he didn't need any power.

    1. In Alexander's opinion, Diogenes was as great as he was. Diogenes was a great philosopher and he was a great emperor.
    2. Diogenes lived freely without the influence of the world's eyes, as did his philosophical ideas. Alexander was the emperor of great strength and his army could set foot on any land without hindrance. Both were the freest men in different senses.

The first sentence is from Alexander, he is a king, he has supreme power, he governs the people and the land, but he is troubled by power, he has his own mission and responsibility, if he did not have these, he might live as freely as Diogenes, unfettered, undisturbed.

Alexander and Diogenes were both philosophers, and although they lived in different social environments, they still had some similarities. At the same time, the words in paragraph 20 reveal two different kinds of freedom, one is the freedom of power, the other is the freedom of spirit. These are the two kinds of freedom that we yearn for in this world. They both have freedom.

    (1) First, they all the philosophers, Alexander thought he could understand the Cynicism as the others could not. Second, they all thought as a "citizen of the world." and admired the figure of Hercules, who labored to help mankind. Third, they all knew that they were free.

    (2) As for Alexander, he is the monarch of the realm, so he has the sovereign power and the air of destiny. As for Diogenes, he cared and also had nothing, so he was not afraid of losing and just wanted to live freely and simply.

    (1) Alexander, like Diogenes, was a true citizen of the world, free in soul. But they chose different paths. Alexander chose to dedicate himself to the good of mankind, while Diogenes chose to be only himself. Alexander admires Diogenes as much as he admires himself, and if he were not such a man who would strive for power and the future of mankind, he would pursue freedom in Diogenes' way.

    (2)  Alexander and Diogenes shared the same philosophical thoughts, they shared similar perceptions. So although their social status is very different, their souls are equally free.

1.This sentence may seen as a paradox, because Alexander was a king of a country, he has powers, wealth and fame, but Diogenes was a beggar who lived in a cask. However, they have similarities, Alexander understood Diogenes' philsosphy-cynicism, they were both rich in spirit. One determined to change people's minds, the other is determined to change people's material life.
2.Alexander thought he was free because he had absolute power and Diogenes was free because he didn't need any power.

Although this is a paradox, it can be seen that Alexander envied Diogenes' free life and wanted to become such a philosopher. There are many similarities between them. For example, they all have profound thoughts and absolute freedom, even though Alexander was due to status and Diogenes was due to thought.

1.Diogenes and Alexander were both citizens of the world, and Alexander was a monarch, a conqueror, whose purpose was to conquer the land. Diogenes was a philosopher who advocated a simple and free life. One of them is rich in material wealth, the other is rich in spiritual wealth, and the two have something in common to some extent.

2.Diogenes and Alexander were both fighting for humanity, even if they were in different positions. Both of them are free. Alexander was free because he had unlimited power, whereas Diogenes was free because he had nothing.

The correlation between these two sentences is that the second sentence is a further, deeper interpretation of the first sentence.

(1)Diogenes and Alexander are free. Diogenes was a beggar. He has nothing, but he has his own ideas to pursue, to promote his cynicism, to help human beings find their true value in life. His spirit is free and rich. Alexander was the king of Macedon, he ruled over the whole country, and any material thing he wanted was available to him by his power, with no shortage of supporters or money. He is materially free.

(2)All the people alive in the world have their own desires, they are bound by all kinds of things. But Diogenes was a beggar, no power and no need ; Alexander was a king, with absolute power, and nothing he could not get. So they are not bound by desire, only they are free.

(1)Alexander was the king of Greece, and his command of the military was very high, and his ideas were admirable. And Diogenes had a thorough understanding of what he was pursuing and his will for life. They are all citizens of the world, their identities are different, but their requirements for themselves, for the whole society are clear, they know what they want. So Alexander lost his power when he was not Alexander, but he did not lose his pursuit of the ideal, and he did what Diogenes does now.

(2)Alexander has the supreme power and honor, he has the most famous philosopher as his teacher, has the pursuit of countless people, countless money, he can do whatever he wants to do, his world is free of troubles, so he is free. Diogenes, on the other hand, does not care about all artificial and false things in the world, he thinks that all natural things are the best, he does not care about other people's ideas, he has his own ideals and pursuits, so he is also free.

Alexander was the king of Macedon, the conqueror of Greece. He has absolute power, countless wealth and loyal people. But Diogenes had no property, only a broken cask and a garment to wrap himself in. If Alexander had not had such a supreme status and position, he might have lived like Dogenes, penniless and adrift, and may be thrown at pebbles. But maybe Alexaxnder didn't think it bad and will choose a life like Dogenes.

Alexander's power set him free, and he had acquired almost everything in the world. He can do anything he want.    Dogenes had no rights ,no money and he didn't care about these. The only thing he cared about was his doctrine.                  So they are turly free.
