At one midnight ,Ausable, a secret agent,got an ordinary telephone call making an appointment in his room. Then, Ausable went back to his room ,followed by Fowler, a writer. When they entered the room, however,they found Max, another secret agent standing halfway across the room, with a pistol in his hand .Max visited Ausable for an important paper concerning some new missiles. He wanted to take it from Ausable.However, Ausable tried to prevent the paper from being obtained by Max. A battle of wits was fought between Ausable and Max. Finally, Ausable defeated Max and Max died.From the story we can know that the artical has some themes. For example,Never judge a person by his appearance or first impressions could mislead.

Max pointed his gun at them and swung his right leg over the windowsill.
