How would you define civilization? What, in your opinion, characterizes a truly civilized society? Do you agree with a society that values strength while despising weakness? Share your thoughts on this. Additionally, feel free to express any other ideas you may have about the themes discussed in "The Most Dangerous Game." Your insights are welcomed and appreciated.
I think a true civilization is one that understands the preciousness and value of human life and respects it. Not knowing a lot of knowledge can be called civilization. That only exports knowledge to a person, but does not make him truly understand civilization. A truly civilized society is one in which people respect each other (whether animals or humans) and understand the definition of true civilization as they continue to absorb knowledge. Society will survive the fittest, but it should not be a simple law of the jungle. The purpose of social evolution is for continuous progress, not for blind plunder.
A truly civilized society is one that respects human rights and is inclusive. A truly civilized society emphasizes education and promotes the dissemination and acquisition of knowledge.
I don't agree with a society that values strength while despising weakness. If either side has too much power, it will breed extreme events such as violence. Only by valuing the weak side, can we be more empathetic and build a better society.
In the story of "The Most Dangerous Game",if Rainsford is not guided, he may become a second general, he will advocate violence to solve problems, he will enjoy the pleasure of designing people to death, he may be psychologically distorted.
I think civilization is a kind of bottom line, a sign that human beings have gone from eating nothing to facing the universe. Civilization is not only the superficial etiquette and education, but from the heart to respect nature and life, and with a careful, inclusive, understanding attitude to face nature and society. A society that only believes in the law of the jungle will not develop for long, it will lead to social instability, people lose trust in each other, and it is only full of plots and tricks.
Civilization is the sum total of human spirit, invention and creation accumulated in human history, which is conducive to understanding and adapting to the objective world, in line with human spiritual pursuit, and can be recognized and accepted by the vast majority of people.
A society that values strength but undervalues weakness seems to me unfair and unfriendly, and everyone's life has its sparkle.
Civilized societies have low levels of violence, strong property rights and clear borders, high levels of social openness and collaboration, universal adherence to contracts, adherence to the rule of law, universal compassion, and respect for individual free choice. A civilized society is opposite to a violent society. We hope to make the society develop in an orderly manner with accepted rules. In a civilized society, everyone should act in a civilized manner and think rationally. Everyone in a civilized society is equal and does not take sides or bully the weak. The general in the article is a paradox, an intellectual but violent man. It can be seen that knowledge cultivation does not make people learn to do things in a civilized way, and civilization cannot completely rely on knowledge, but should pay attention to social education.
Civilization is the unity of material civilization and spiritual civilization. A truly civilized society should be a material civilization with advanced science and technology, which can meet people's needs for a better life. A truly civilized society should also pay attention to spiritual civilization, social citizens should have compassion, moral sense, and restrain themselves with correct values. This kind of civilized society and the law of jungle life - the law of the jungle, survival of the fittest is completely different, should not only pay attention to strength, despise the weak.
Civilization is the aggregate of all the social and natural acts which have freed man from barbarism.
First, humans are killing less and less of their own kind, which is the most important sign of a growing civilization.Second, civilised societies have strong property rights and clear boundaries. When everyone has inviolable private property, market exchange and division of labor can become possible, human beings can bid farewell to the cruel law of the jungle, and social civilization will be higher.
I don't agree this. Because this social view may cause people to overlook individual differences in abilities and strengths. For those who are born or acquired with less strength, they may be treated unfairly.
Civilized society not only represents a modern society as opposed to feudal society, but also pays attention to moral concepts and humanistic care. The law of the jungle only applies to the jungle and should not be embodied in human society. A truly civilized person should not despise life or take pleasure in it. At the same time, civilized society should have moral and legal constraints to stop us from behaving out of line.
In my opinion, a truly civilized world is one in which everyone is equal and everyone plays his/her own role. Just as Plato wrote in the Republic, everyone has his/her own position and task, and everyone can do his/her own work well and create his/her own value for the world.
The world of the jungle is not desirable, and it is not correct to fall behind and be beaten. It is neither right nor immoral to invade the territory of another country on the grounds of strength or weakness. If you think too highly of yourself, it will bring proud punishment.
Civilization is the expersion of a country's progress. A true civilized society should have people with high quality and ability. It also should have a cultural system of innovation and development and a strict management system. I don't deny a society that value strength while despising weakness, because of natural selection, survival of the fittest has always existed in society, even today society still has this phenomenon. The most dangerous game will stimulate the greatest potential and dark side of people's hearts, human nature has always been not completely good and evil, this game exposed the most sinister side of the heart, which is also the most worthy of reflection.
I think that civilization is built on respect and understanding of human rights. A civilized society needs not only material civilization, but also spiritual civilization. A civilized society needs education to transmit knowledge to people, and in this process, people learn to respect and understand human rights.
I don't agree with a society that values strength while despising weakness. If strength is civilization, it is no different from the previous barbaric society, then the whole society will be full of violence and bloodshed. We should learn to respect others and build a good life together.
I think civilization means that everyone in society should have empanthy, and can help the weak people. In my opinion, everyone can realize that they are a part of society and should not have the idea of superiority. Everyone helps each other and will not intentionally sacrifice the interests of others. I disagree with a society that values strength over weakness. Everyone is a part of society, and we all have an obligation to help everyone in need, rather than always thinking about our own interests.
Civilization is the symbol of a country's progress, the product of social development and unique to people. In my opinion, a civilized society is open minded, people are united, people abide by unified rules, and have a certain amount of empathy. I don't agree that valuing strength belittles a weak world. A civilized society should be free, fair and inclusive. Everyone is equal in this society and respects life, instead of some people bullying the weak through strong forces.
In my opinion, civilization represents respect for life and relative equality. The biggest difference between humans and animals is that humans have acquired consciousness and learned to think. And it's no longer just the nature of animals. We gradually understand the value of life, the concept of equality, friendship, and harmony. The survival of the fittest does exist, but it does not mean that the weak have no chance of survival. The purpose of the rise of the strong should not be to eliminate the existence of the weak, but rather to achieve balance.
Civilization, in my opinion, is the act of humanity breaking away from barbaric society, establishing order, and getting rid of chaos. The characteristics of a civilized society, free from barbaric behavior, human beings follow order, have correct values, and basic human rights are protected.I don't agree. If a society values strength over weakness, it can lead to serious social differentiation and easily cause conflicts. A civilized society should treat vulnerable groups better. The most dangerous game is clearly a small society that values strength over weakness. The general in the text underestimates the protagonist due to his status, resulting in being killed by a weaker servant. However, if the general does not underestimate the weaker person, he may not have lost this "game". If he does not initially treat chasing and killing servants as a game, he will not lose his life because of this game, but there may be another ending.
I think civilisation is an abstract concept. A country that functions in an orderly manner and whose citizens have a language, beliefs and values are, in my view, the basic conditions that a civilised society should have. In a civilised society, human beings play the most important role. Civilisations are created by human beings, they are the way human beings perceive and express themselves in the real world.
I do not agree with this. If a society values strength and despises weakness, I don't think it can be called a real society. It is just a cruel and barbaric environment, which is no different from the animal world of "survival of the fittest". I think that the theme of this essay is that the environment they live in has a great impact on them. In the eyes of the General and Rainsford there is no civilisation and they are not aware of it. The environment they live in hands them the survival of the fittest.
Civilization is a combination of high development of psychological and physical ways. A truly civilized society must be governed by a certain system to determine goodness and badness, it can't judge things ambiguously. I don't agree a society that value strength while despising weakness. Actually a civilized society is ought to value them both and offer help to the weakness instead of despising it. Probably the theme can be the environment can affect one person, because Rainsford became brutal too after enduring the hunting of the general.
A civilized society is one in which everyone has their own job, goals and pursuits. Most people are polite and love the elderly ,children and pregnant women. The communication between people is from the heart, mutual tolerance.
I think it's okay to respect and admire the strong. Respecting the strong and learning from the strong is also an attitude towards life in my opinion, but it doesn't mean that we should flatter the strong. In the same way,we should not look down on the weakness. On the contary , we can help them, and they certainly have their shining points.
1. In my opinion, civilization is a state of human society that is developed and organized. Also , it concentrates power, extending human control over the rest of nature, including over other human being.
2. I don't agree "Social Darwinism". Ideally, some people may think human beings and the society can be improved by this theory. A society that values strength while despising weakness would make peope under the great pressure. If every people allow it, the society will be too cruel.
3. When talking about the theme of text, it occurred to me that humanities innate brutality could be one of them. As the teacher said in the class, people are born to be constantly regulated and restricted. Without those social rules and laws, humans who are innate evil will be sure to make s mess of the world.
Civilization is a humanistic spirit accumulated in human history that is conducive to understanding and adapting to the objective world, conforms to moral concepts, and can be accepted by the majority of people. I believe that a civilized society needs to reduce violence, and in a civilized society we can solve problems with just laws. In addition, a civilized society should also have the necessary rules and regulations, and without strict systems, people will only let their behavior behave freely. I don't agree with a society that values strength and despises weakness. Because I think this is a barbaric act, if the people at the bottom of the society can live happily, then this society can be regarded as a highly civilized society.
I think civilization is a place where civilized people can control their desire to hurt others. Society is made up of different classes. It is impossible to make everyone completely equal in every aspect, so it is normal for people in such society to have unequal views of people who are weaker than themselves. The key to whether a person is truly civilized is whether he or she can restrain the desire to suppress the weak, and whether he or she can prevent unequal behaviors.
For example, in The Most Dangerous Game, the vastly different social classes between Rainsford and Zaroff are still prevalent in the society we live in. We think that if we were Zaroff ourselves, we wouldn't hunt Rainsford for fun just because he is weaker than us. As a result, we think that Zarrof is not civilized despite his General traits. The reason we regard Zaroff uncivilized is not because we absolutely believe that Zaroff is equal to us.
It is impossible to achieve complete equality in all aspects of social development for everyone. To make social development looked harmonious and equal in general, we have to make the majority of people restrain their desire to suppress the weak, instead of making everyone think that everyone is absolutely equal. "The fittest survive" is an objective fact that cannot be changed, but how to treat "the weak" is what can be civilized from our subjective point of view.
In my opinion, civilization is the respect for life, the fear of nature, the sympathy for the weak and the defense of justice. Civilized society is more focused on harmonious coexistence, rather than the law of the jungle activities like animal society. When people who live according to the moral norms in a society are no longer selfish, bully the weak and cold-blooded, they should be called civilized people. This is a truly civilized society, where people do not value strength and despise weakness, they are more willing to help others. In this novel, the general enjoys the feeling of hunting others, even if he is aristocratic and very polite, but he is no longer affected by the environment like a civilized person.
Civilization is the sum total of human spirit, invention and creation accumulated in human history, which is conducive to understanding and adapting to the objective world, in line with human spiritual pursuit, and can be recognized and accepted by the vast majority of people.A truly civilized society should be a society with clear social division of labor, urban civilization, social order and legal system perfect, stable life, cultural prosperity, scientific and technological progress and development.
I do not agree with such a society, whether powerful or weak people, they are an important part of society, if we allow the powerful to suppress, then what will our society become?
I think civilization is the product of the development of a society, through which we can see the degree and trend of the development of this society. A truly civilized society is characterized by people living and working in peace and harmony. I don't agree with a society that values strength and undervalues weakness, which is too unfair to some people
A truly civilized society is characterized by values such as justice, empathy, and respect for diversity. While strength can be important, despising weakness undermines the essence of a civilized society.
In "The Most Dangerous Game," themes of morality and the thin line between civilization and savagery are explored. The story challenges the notion of hunting for sheer thrill and power, highlighting the consequences of abandoning ethical principles. It prompts reflection on the fragility of civilization when confronted with primal instincts.
Ultimately, a truly civilized society values humanity, compassion, and cooperation over the mere pursuit of strength, recognizing that true strength lies in empathy and understanding.
In my opinion, civilization is made of systematically rules committed and complied by all people in the society. I think in a truly civilized society, all the people should be friendly, moral and observant.
No,I think a society that values strength while despising weakness is awful. If all people do things with this creed, the society will be full of conflict, contradiction and indifference. And the initial groups of people who gain the upper hand will be reduced to the weakening groups of people one day.It is a vicious cycle. We can’t be trapped in the creed which is called Social Darwinism and we should resist it.
We should maintain our moral creeds and comply with correct social briefs and rules to avoid the “game”.We are humans who should be sympathetic, empathetic and full of love.
Civilization can be defined as an advanced stage of human social development and organization, characterized by complex social, political, and economic structures, as well as cultural and technological advancements. A truly civilized society is one that embodies certain fundamental characteristics:
1.Respect for Human Dignity: A civilized society respects the inherent value and dignity of every individual, regardless of their strengths or weaknesses. It recognizes the worth of each person and seeks to ensure their well-being and rights.
Rule of Law and Justice: A civilized society upholds the rule of law, ensuring that justice is administered fairly and impartially. It values legal and ethical standards that protect the rights of all individuals, regardless of their status or abilities.2.Compassion and Empathy: A truly civilized society values compassion and empathy, understanding that the well-being of its members is a collective responsibility. It supports and cares for those who are vulnerable or in need, rather than despising weakness.3.Intellectual and Cultural Advancement: A civilized society values intellectual and cultural pursuits, promoting education, the arts, and scientific progress. It recognizes the importance of knowledge, creativity, and critical thinking in shaping a thriving community.4.Inclusivity and Diversity: A civilized society embraces diversity and inclusivity, recognizing the richness that comes from different perspectives, backgrounds, and abilities. It seeks to create an environment where all individuals can contribute and thrive.5.Environmental Stewardship: A civilized society values the environment and practices sustainable living, understanding the interconnectedness of human well-being with the health of the planet.
I do not agree with a society that values strength while despising weakness. Such a perspective can lead to discrimination, marginalization, and the neglect of those who may need support the most. A truly civilized society recognizes that human worth is not solely determined by physical or mental strength, but by the inherent dignity and value of every individual. It strives to create a community where all members are respected, supported, and given the opportunity to flourish, regardless of their perceived strengths or weaknesses.
Human Nature: The story offers a commentary on the darker aspects of human nature, particularly the capacity for cruelty and the pursuit of power. General Zaroff's belief in his own superiority and his disregard for the lives of others reflect a chilling portrayal of human arrogance and moral decay.
Civilization is a unique material and spiritual embodiment developed and created by a race in its continuous exploration of the world. Civilization is a new stage in the cultural and social development of a nation. In a truly civilized society, people use violence less and less. People pay attention to unity and cooperation, and clarify the social division of labor to jointly obtain wealth and create value. People will establish a common moral bottom line and a clear legal system to restrain their behavior and protect their rights. Human imagination and creativity are constantly stimulated in civilized society, and cultural flourishing has emerged. The development of society promotes the progress of science and technology. I don't subscribe to a society that values strength and despises weakness. In a truly civilized society, truly civilized people should have goodwill towards their fellow citizens or compatriots, and sympathy and assistance for the disadvantaged. They will treat and use power correctly. They will correctly distinguish between good and evil, and consciously uphold justice and fairness. In a civilized society, the social order should not be simply the law of the jungle, but the coexistence of competition and cooperation.
I think civilization is the general term for the wealth created by human beings, especially the creation of spiritual wealth. At the same time, I think that civilized society is first of all low in violence, because civilized people are not full of animal nature like animals, but limit their words and deeds with high literacy, respect and reverence for any life, and have the ability to empathize. I am opposed to a society that values strength and belittles the vulnerable. I think this is the degeneration of civilized society, the real civilized society should be a harmonious and united society, only animals have the nature of competition. I think this novel also discusses the relationship between man and nature. Risford from a good big animal hunter to General Zaroff's prey, once a wanton hunt for animals, he turned into a prey, which gave the human centered arrogant human beings a wake-up call.
The Oxford Dictionary defines "civilization" as "a state of highly developed and organized society." I don't think there will be violence, bloodshed and slavery in a truly civilized society. Society is free, people are free and kind. People's basic rights are guaranteed, and private property and judicial authority are fully respected.
I am in favor of survival of the fittest, and it is difficult for weak people to survive in society. In my opinion, weakness does not only mean physical, but also mental.
