Neil's death,I think,is a conpound result of several facets. It is all to be blamed for that harsh competition in education, his dominating and bossy father,Mr.Keating's idealism and even Neil himself. To begin with, constant competitions and neverous air in education force every participants, regardless of their wishes, to run forward,no exception for Neil and his father. However, Neil found what really he loved and dwelled on acting. But his father hindered Neil from performing with an iron fist.Equally,Mr.Keating's idealism, along with the harsh reality, forms a paradox, which leads Neil to his tragical suicide. What if Neil gathered up his courage and express his wish? Nobody knows. But if he really could done so,incidents like this maybe might haven't happened.

It's my contention that we can not blame Neil's death to anyone in particular though it seems that his father's  dictatorial manner leads to the tragedy directly. This reminds me of a saying "No snowflake in an avalanche ever feels responsible." The further reason is the abnormal social environment. Only employment and income expectation are considered and ignore students' personality. Welton, for instance,is a typical example which caters for the unreasonable trend :by intensifying its spoon-feed education to develop the enrolment rate.

Back to the personal factor, except Neil's father , Neil himself was not courage enough to express his own emotion. He gave up too early to communicate with his father.Utter despair destroyed the boy, then death became the destination of Neil's life voyage. I am really mournful about the loss of such a young life.

Neil's two different characteristics led to his death. Neil feared the authority, he didn't have the courage to stand up and fight against oppression from the authority. He always obeyed commands from the authority. On the other hand, Mr. Keating opened a new world which is bright and free for Neil,  and Neil started to find a new way towards his own dream, defied his father's will. Found himself in a dilemma, Neil felt despair and choosed suicide.

System should be blamed for Neil's death on creating his deep-seated character: he is afraid to rebel against authority.Neil, when he first appeared, was the image of a typical elite student,  "Excellence", all A's, the leader of a small team, and popular. However, these are all appearances, and only the choices a person makes under pressure reflect his true humanity , and the greater the pressure, the more real the traits reacted to.He seems to be in such the hell that he has to obverse every order and be anyone else to escape deep-seated fear.

There is no doubt that Neil's father's stubborn action led to Neil's death straight but obviously the society and the major thought had to be blamed. Hoping his son to be a doctor and gain higher position and salaries, Neil's father's thought was understandable in that time, which was influenced by the time's education idea and the needy family environment. But his disbelief in Neil's choice was definately wrong.  What's more, Neil's thought was also immature that he thougt the school paly was his last chance to be an actor so that he lied to his father, though Neil's real thought might be to become an actor. We can't say that what Neil did was always right. It meant that Neil's way of thinking was similar with his father's in nature. They just did what they wanted to do without caring about other's thought. It's really a pity,Overall, all the pity could be resasoned to the cruel reality-- the time's major idea.
