Chinese people mainly use chopsticks for almost all food during meals. We never stick chopsticks upright in the rice bowl, because it resembles the sacrificial ritual for the dead, which is extremely impolite.
 
However, people in the UK and US use knives and forks separately. They hold the fork in the left hand and the knife in the right all the time while eating. They will never use chopsticks in formal western dinners.
