A major difference in table manners is dining style and tableware. In China, people use chopsticks and share communal dishes placed in the center of the table. It’s polite to let elders start eating first, and sticking chopsticks upright in rice is considered impolite. In theUK/US,people use knives and forks and eat from their own individual plates. They usually wait for the host to begin the meal, and talking with a full mouth is seen as rude. This difference reflects distinct cultural values: collectivism in China and individualism in the West.
