You must have read or heard many stories about heroes and heroines. Can you think of some stories about your personal heroes or national heroes that you find more inspiring and admirable? Why do you feel that way?
One national hero I deeply admire is Yuan Longping, the "Father of Hybrid Rice". He spent decades researching hybrid rice, overcoming countless failures and harsh field conditions, to develop high-yield rice varieties that have fed billions of people around the world.
What makes him so inspiring is not just his scientific achievements, but his lifelong commitment to ending hunger. Even in his old age, he continued working in rice fields, driven by the simple wish that "everyone can have enough to eat". His perseverance, selflessness and devotion to the greater good remind me that heroes are not just those who fight wars, but those who dedicate their lives to improving others’ lives.
The first hero that comes to my mind is Tu Youyou. She led her team to discover the Artemisinin, making a significant contribution to the global fight against malaria and becoming the first Chinese female scientist to win the Nobel Prize in this field. I admire her very much because during the research process, she experienced countless failures but still chose to start over, conducting experiments again and again. Eventually, she innovated by combining Chinese and Western methods: low-temperature extraction, and finally discovered artemisinin. Her innovative spirit and perseverance are truly admirable to me.
A hero who truly moves me is Zhang Guimei, the founder of the first free high school for girls in China. She has spent over 20 years in the mountains of Yunnan, fighting against poverty and inequality to help girls from poor families get an education. Despite suffering from serious health problems, she has helped nearly 2,000 girls go to college and change their fates.I admire her because she turned a small wish into a lifelong mission. She never gave up, even when she faced financial difficulties, physical pain, and doubt from others. Her story teaches me that heroism is often about quiet persistence and love. She shows us that one person’s kindness can light up the future of so many lives.
The first thing that came to my mind was the story of Chen Xiangrong. He had a very famous saying,"Pure love, only for China." So he lived his life to fulfill his belief. Recently, I happened to hear a song called "Chen's Mother Asks about Yong", which tells the story of him. His youthful sincerity and fearless bravery are truly admirable.
