Discussion for Unit 9

After watching the lectures on giving a great speech and analyzing TED speakers, I’ve identified two pivotal skills: vocal modulation and storytelling.

Vocal modulation isn’t just about volume—it’s adjusting pitch and pace to mirror the speech’s emotion. TED speakers use this to craft rhythm, making their words engaging; I’ve since stopped speaking in a monotone during presentations, instantly livening my delivery. Storytelling is equally vital: weaving relatable anecdotes turns abstract ideas into tangible narratives, a trick TED speakers master to forge emotional connections with audiences. I now add short personal stories to my speeches, and the audience’s increased attentiveness speaks for itself.

These skills are invaluable for academic and professional scenarios, from class lectures to job interviews. With consistent practice, I’m determined to hone them and deliver more impactful speeches.
