In ancient China, the color yellow was exclusive to the emperor for several reasons. Firstly, the concept of the Five Elements theory was highly influential. Yellow corresponded to the element of "earth," which was regarded as the central element, symbolizing stability and the core of the universe. As the emperor was considered the center of the country, ruling over all, yellow was a natural fit to represent his supreme status.

Secondly, yellow was associated with the sun, which has long been an object of worship in Chinese culture. The emperor was seen as the "Son of Heaven," so using yellow was a way to show his connection with the divine, celestial power.

Finally, strict sumptuary laws were in place to maintain imperial authority. By monopolizing the color yellow, the imperial family could clearly distinguish itself from the nobility and commoners, reinforcing the imperial hierarchy. Any unauthorized use of the imperial yellow color was considered a serious offense.
