In my understanding, a plague is a widespread and often severe infectious disease that disrupts communities, societies, or even entire civilizations. It is not just a biological phenomenon but a deeply social and psychological one, affecting every aspect of human life—health, economy, and relationships.

If I were to define plague with a metaphor, I would compare it to a wildfire.

  • Like a wildfire, a plague spreads rapidly, consuming and destroying everything in its path.
  • Both are fueled by conditions that allow them to thrive—wildfires by dry forests and winds, and plagues by dense populations and weak public health systems.
  • While devastating, wildfires and plagues also expose vulnerabilities in ecosystems and societies, forcing a reckoning and, sometimes, renewal.

This metaphor captures the uncontrollable, devastating, and transformative nature of a plague.
